Hon. Adolf Kasaija Mwesige, a lawyer and politician, is the current Minister of Defense in the Government of Uganda, a position he has held since June 2016.
He previously served as the Minister of Local Government from February 2009 to June 2016.
He is also the Member of Parliament for Bunyangabu County, Kabarole District, in the Ugandan legislature.
Early Life and Education
Hon. Adolf Mwesige was born in Kabarole District in Western Uganda on April 4, 1966. He attended primary and secondary education in Kabarole District and completed his advanced levels at Nyakasura School in Fort Portal.
Mwesige holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from Makerere University and a Diploma in legal practice from the Law Development Centre in Kampala.
Mwesige was first elected as the Member of Parliament for Bunyangabu County in Kabarole District in 1996. From 1996 to 2009, Mwesige served as the Minister for General Duties in the office of the Prime Minister.
He was appointed as the Minister of Local Government in February 2009, a position he held until June 2016. He was moved to the post of Defense Minister on 6th June 2016, replacing Dr. Chrispus Walter Kiyonga.
Mwesige has been enrolled as an advocate of the High Court of Uganda since 1994. From 1992 to 1996, he worked in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as a foreign service officer responsible for legal and consular matters.
Hon Adolf Mwesige is married with children.
