More than 40 officers of the UPDF Special Forces Command were yesterday formally adorned with their new ranks at the 10 Marines Headquarter in Entebbe at a function presided over by the Special Forces Chief, Maj. Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba following their promotion last month.
In May, the President and Commander-In-Chief of the UPDF, Gen. Yoweri Museveni promoted 692 officers of the UPDF, some of whom serve with the Special Forces. Notably, the Commander of the Special Forces, Maj. Gen. Kainerugaba and his Deputy, Brig. Muzeeyi Sabiiti, were promoted from Brigadier and Colonel respectively. The two officers were a few days later bedecked with their new pips at colorful ceremony in Mbuya, the Ministry of Defense and UPDF headquarters.
Among the other promotions in the SFC, six officers were promoted from the rank of Major to Lieutenant Colonel, 13 officers from Captain to Major, and 22 Lieutenants to Captain. At yesterday’s event, the newly promoted officers were accompanied by their spouses, relatives, and friends.
Maj. Gen. Kainerugaba congratulated the officers upon their well deserved promotions. “I congratulate all of you upon your well earned elevations. However, do not relax because you have not yet arrived. Rather, re-dedicate yourself, maintain focus and increase on the tempo of work”, Maj. Gen. Kainerugaba told the promoted officers.
Gen. Kainerugaba encouraged those who missed out on the promotions not to lose heart, because their good work will also be recognized in due course. He observed that the army leadership has now introduced promotional exams for junior officers, which he described as a step in the right direction. “The PROMEX (promotional exams) is a good thing because it will keep you sharp and focused. Therefore the onus is now on you to not only maintain the hard work, but ensure you are physically fit and up to date with the army doctrine, programs and training manuals,” advised Gen. Kainerugaba.
The Chief of Staff of the UPDF Air Force, Brig. James Birungi attended the event. Others in attendance were Directors, commanding officers, and well wishers that accompanied the promoted officers on their great personal achievements.
