The Commander of the UPDF Special Forces Command (SFC), Maj. Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has described the youth of Mutundwe, a suburb of Kampala, as exemplary and inspiring for other young people around the country.
General Kainerugaba, who represented the First Lady and Minister of Education, Janet Museveni, said this while addressing a congregation on Sunday 11th September at St. Charles Lwanga Catholic parish in Mutundwe. General Kainerugaba was the chief guest at a fundraising drive to support youth projects in the area. He delivered 10m shillings from His Excellency the President to the youth.
“I’m very impressed by what the youth of Mutundwe are doing and trying to achieve. Other youth around the country have a lot to learn from you. I urge you to maintain the spirit and keep up the discipline,’ said General Kainerugaba.
General Kainerugaba had earlier on attended mass, before presiding over the fundraising drive. Church faithfuls were treated to hilarious and entertaining performances by the youth who performed traditional folklore dances such as “Orunyenge,” and “Ekitagururo” which amused the audience.
The Managing Director of National Water and Sewerage Cooperation (NWSC), Dr. Silver Mugisha and his wife, who are resident in the area, also attended the event. Dr. Mugisha thanked General Kainerugaba for honoring the invitation, adding that there could not be a better person to inspire young people in the country.
Earlier that morning, the Special Forces Commander also attended a church service and participated in another fundraising drive at St Paul Bulega, Church of Uganda, in Garuga, near Entebbe Town. General Kainerugaba was standing in for the Commander of Operation Wealth Creation, General Caleb Akandwanaho a.k.a Salim Saleh, who is a resident of the area.
St Paul Bulega was founded by the late Esteri Kokundeka in the early 1990’s when she resided at her son’s (General Saleh’s) house in Garuga. Esteri Kokundeka was the mother of both President Yoweri Museveni and General Salim Saleh, and grandmother to General Kainerugaba and others. The church is still undergoing construction. General Kainerugaba made a contribution to the ongoing construction on behalf of the entire Kaguta family.
