The Chief of Defense Forces UPDF, Gen. Katumba Wamala yesterday commissioned a newly constructed modern recreation facility at the Entebbe based UPDF Marines that will be used by officers from the Special Forces and their relatives.
The facility, dubbed Uaminifu Officers club, is equipped with a spacious lounge for VIPs and senior army officers, a modern bar and excellent catering services among others. Uaminifu is a Swahili term that literally means dependability, reliability, loyalty or trustworthiness.
The Officers Club, which was constructed by a team of engineers from the Special Forces and Engineering Brigade, was funded with resources from Engineering Brigade and the Ministry of Defense.
Gen. Wamala, who was flanked by the Commander of the Special Forces Command, Brig. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, urged the officers of the Special Forces to seize the opportunity and put the facility to optimum use. “Officer Clubs is where officer’s ethics are groomed. It is the only area outside of work where all the other aspects of an officer come out. It builds camaraderie and espirit de corps,” said General Katumba.
Brig. Muhoozi Kainerugaba on his part said the Special Forces were fulfilling a Constitutional obligation of not only contributing to peace and security in the country, but as well being an innovative and productive force that contributes to the welfare of its citizens. He said the Officers Club and a host of other welfare projects shall greatly enhance and contribute to the general welfare of the Special Forces.
Brig. Muhoozi encouraged the officers to embrace the facility, but cautioned them to maintain discipline at all times. “Observe discipline. Be ladies and gentlemen while in this officers club,” said Brig Muhoozi. He added that the Officer Club will build, nourish and enhance the military culture and ideals of officers of the Special Forces Command.
The unveiling of the Club was also attended by the UPDF Commander of Land Forces, Maj. Gen. David Muhoozi, the State House Comptroller Ms Lucy Nakyobe, the Commander Engineering Brigade, Brig. Timothy Sabiiti, UPDF’s Brig Moses Rwakitarate, the Airforce Chief of Staff, Col. James Birungi, the Deputy Commander Special Forces, Col. Muzeyi Sabiiti, the Entebbe Deputy RDC Sarah Bananuka and the Defense Attaches to Uganda from Russia and the USA.
